Website Redesign in Dubai: When to Rebuild vs Refresh

Most Dubai business websites reach the end of their useful life after 3–5 years. Technology changes, design trends evolve, and user expectations rise. Knowing when to redesign — and whether to rebuild or refresh — is a critical decision that affects your SEO, user experience, and budget.

**Signs your Dubai website urgently needs redesign:**

  • Mobile page speed score below 60 on Google PageSpeed
  • Not passing Google's Mobile-Friendly Test
  • No Arabic language version (if your audience includes Arabic speakers)
  • Conversion rate below 1% on traffic that should convert
  • Core Web Vitals in the "Needs Improvement" or "Poor" range
  • Design last updated more than 3 years ago
  • Not PDPL compliant (no cookie consent, no privacy policy)

**Refresh vs rebuild:**

**Refresh (partial redesign):** Update visual design, typography, and colours without changing the underlying architecture or URLs. Good for: sites where the technical foundation is solid but the design is dated.

Risk: If the existing theme or framework has performance limitations, a design refresh won't fix Core Web Vitals problems.

**Rebuild (full redesign):** New platform, new URLs, new code. Good for: sites on outdated platforms (old Joomla, Drupal, Flash), sites with poor technical SEO fundamentals, or sites that need Arabic added at the architecture level.

Risk: URL changes must be managed with 301 redirects to preserve SEO equity. Without proper redirect mapping, a rebuild can cause significant ranking drops.

**SEO preservation during a Dubai website redesign:**

1. Crawl the existing site and export all URLs before work begins 2. Map every old URL to a new URL and implement 301 redirects on launch day 3. Submit new sitemap to Google Search Console within 24 hours of launch 4. Monitor Google Search Console for crawl errors for 4 weeks post-launch 5. Preserve all meta titles and descriptions unless they need improvement
