Common UX Mistakes That Reduce Sales on Your Website

After auditing hundreds of UAE business websites, the same UX mistakes appear repeatedly. These are not obscure technical issues — they are fundamental design decisions that actively prevent visitors from becoming customers. Fix them and you will see measurable improvement in enquiries and sales within weeks.

**Mistake 1: Hiding Your Phone Number** In the UAE, many business relationships still start with a phone call. If your phone number is not visible in the top right corner of every page on desktop, and prominently accessible on mobile, you are losing leads to competitors who make themselves easy to reach.

**Mistake 2: Contact Forms With Too Many Fields** Every additional required field reduces form completion rates. Research shows that reducing a form from 11 fields to 4 increases completion by 120%. Ask only for name, phone/email, and a brief description of the enquiry. Collect everything else on the call.

**Mistake 3: Unclear Value Proposition on the Homepage** Visitors to your homepage should understand what you do, who you serve, and why you are the right choice within 5 seconds. If your homepage opens with a generic stock photo and a tagline like "Your trusted partner in excellence," you have failed this test.

**Mistake 4: No Mobile-Optimised CTAs** Desktop CTAs that work beautifully (large hover-state buttons in the navigation) are often invisible on mobile. CTAs on mobile must be prominent, large enough to tap without zooming, and placed where a thumb naturally rests (bottom of the screen or top within reach).

**Mistake 5: Slow Page Load** Already covered in detail elsewhere, but worth repeating as a UX issue: a slow website is not just a technical problem — it is the worst possible first impression of your business speed and quality.

**Mistake 6: Autoplay Videos and Popups** Autoplay videos with sound, pop-ups that appear immediately, and exit-intent modals that cover content drive away users rather than converting them. These should be used extremely sparingly and only when tested to improve conversions.

**Mistake 7: No Trust Signals** A website that does not show real client testimonials, case studies, certifications, or recognisable client logos asks visitors to take a leap of faith. In the UAE's competitive market, that leap is rarely taken.

**Mistake 8: Inconsistent Design Language** Multiple font families, inconsistent button styles, misaligned spacing, and varying colour usage signal that the website was built by different people at different times without a coherent design system. This damages trust subconsciously.

**Mistake 9: Generic Stock Photography** Images of people who are clearly not your team, in offices that look nothing like yours, doing things that have nothing to do with your service, all reduce authenticity. Real photos of your team, office, and work convert significantly better.

**Mistake 10: No Clear Next Step After Conversion** When a visitor submits a contact form, what happens? If the response is just "your message has been sent," you are missing an opportunity. Show expected response time, a direct phone number for urgent enquiries, and links to related content that keep them engaged while they wait.

A UX audit from Smart Screen Technology identifies and prioritises exactly these issues in your specific website.
